HISTORY

Sponsor A Child (SAC) program in the Philippines started in June 1980 with the purpose of helping poor families in the area of education and health of their children.

Mrs. Edith Dominguez, the wife of the late Rev. Arsenio P. Dominguez founder and president then of the Philippine Missionary Institute saw the need of the people around the area where PMI students and staff are ministering. She realized that the people does not need just to hear the Gospel but to be helped as well in their needs and in giving them hope for a better future. Through the assistance of Christian National’s Evangelism Commission (CNEC) now known as Partners International of U.S.A. this ministry started. The sponsorship program started in providing financial assistance to the recipients for their primary education only but in 1992 the assistance was extended up to the secondary education of the children. From 35 children being helped by the program the number of recipients has grown to 800 in the mid 80’s. At present we have 411 children enrolled in the program.

The medical ministry was conceived through the SAC program when in one of their Home Bible study (Ptr. & Mrs. Dominguez) saw people literally dying because medical services were scarce in that depressed area and poverty prevented these poor people from receiving medical treatment. These scenarios have burdened the hearts of Rev. and Mrs. Dominguez to pray for a stationary clinic that will cater to the needs of poor patients.

Later on, the program was incorporated and registered in the Securities and Exchange Commission as Mission Community Services, Inc. (MICOS) and under her umbrella are the following programs:

1. Sponsor A Child (SAC)
2. Medical Ministry
3. Evangelism
